Commitment to the breed

No longer part of the Weimaraner Association Rules points 1 - 8  are what the Membership should aspire to as part of their ‘Commitment’ to the breed. Agreed by the members at the A.G.M. 2003

 1. Members shall consider the health and welfare of their dogs and the breed above any personal profit or gain and will take responsibility for any  dogs they own or which are in their are.

 2. Members with breeding stock are recommended to submit their stock for examination under the joint KC/BVA eye and HD schemes.

 3. Members shall only breed from bitches when they wish to retain stock for themselves, to retain a line, or when they have sufficient enquiries for a proposed litter.

 4. Members shall encourage new Weimaraner owners to join a society for the breed.

 5. Members shall, when engaged in competitive events with their dogs, conduct themselves in such a way as not to bring discredit to the breed and shall demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.

 6. Members shall only breed from Weimaraners without Major Faults as detailed in the Standard for the breed. Breeding stock should be of good Temperament and where possible show a natural working instinct.

 7. Stud dog owners shall use their discretion in determining the extent of use of a stud dog.

 8. Members shall not misrepresent themselves or their stock and will deal only in a fair and honest manner. Clients buying stock shall be encouraged to present the dog to a veterinary surgeon within four days of collection.

 9. Members shall ensure that any stock bred or from which they breed shall be registered with the Kennel Club.

 10. Members shall not allow bitches to be mated before their second or to whelp after their eighth birthday.

 11. Members shall not breed their bitches more than once in every twelve months or more than three times in their lifetime.

 12. Stud dog owners shall be equally responsible to consider rules 9 - 11 before using their dog on any bitches

 13. Breeders shall supply, with each puppy, a comprehensive diet sheet and suitable guidance with regard to responsible care and ownership,   (To be produced by the Association). Both bitch and stud dog owners are to be responsible for help with rehousing a dog should it become necessary at any future date.

 n.b. Members should note that the committee of the Weimaraner Association does not agree with loan of bitch arrangements.
