Results: WA FT (All Aged) @ Upper Helmsley, North Yorkshire (02/09/2024)
By Kind invitation of Sean Chamberlain & Upper Helmsley Sporting Judges: S Burton (AP) & B Dymond (BP) Chief Steward: N Wroe Red Flag: S Mills Picking Up: Chris Gardner & George Results: 1st: Ekkolander Malbec [LM] (K Saynor) 4th & GA: Brookshead Edelweiss [GSP] (H: R Kay; O: M Jackson) The WA is pleased to announce the results of the first field trial of the 2024/25 season with a return to Upper Helmsley, on Partridge. whereas last season the going was heavy underfoot and standing water on the fields, due to a very wet summer which continued into the autumn. This season we were met with a large variety of game crops and birds well spaced out. The air was still and very humid as we got under way, but the wind freshened in the afternoon. |
Congratulations to Karen on her first place, and to Ryan Kay handling Michelle's dog to a 4th place and the Guns' Award.
Many thanks to our host, and the guns, who also supported this trial and also to Suzanna as Red Flag, and Chris & George the picking up team. Nigel Wroe WA FT Secretary 04/09/2024 |

By Kind invitation of F Briley & Canalgame Judges: S Robson (AP) & N Wroe (BP) Chief Steward: S Burton Red Flag: Various Picking Up: C Fletcher & Dakota 3rd: Hunterstone Arya [HV] (M Mattravers) Guns' Award: St Bertrand des Grandes Maurieres (Imp Fra) [WEI] (A Lindley) The WA is pleased to announce the results of the last field trial of the 2023/24 season with a 3rd place to Mac Mattravers and a Guns' Award to Austin Lindley. Overnight the temperature had dropped to almost minus double figures, and the trial began with the mercury at minus 4 celsius. So there was a heavy frost and iced up puddles on tracks and in some fields. But there were blue skies above and it did warm up during the day. There was scant wind as the trial started, but later directionable wind became perceptible at times. Though there was some work out in the open, the birds were mostly found in the woods, spinneys and headlands. Where not shaded by tall trees there were islands of sun-warmed cover crops and wild bird cover. The guns shot very well. |
Some very capable dogs were lost in the later rounds.
Congratulations to Mac and Austin. Special thanks to our host, officials, the guns and helpers, and sincere thanks to Suzi Burton for stepping up as Chief Steward at late notice when the nominated steward was unable to travel. A big thank you to all the handlers who have supported WA trials over the season, as ever the season seemed to be over in a flash. The 2024/25 season planning has already begun! Results: WA: FT (AA) @ Upper Helmsley (11/01/2024)
By kind invitation of S Chamberlain and Upper Helmsley Sporting Judges: P Pearson (AP) & D Elrington (NP Chief Steward: N Wroe Red Flag: Principally J Froome Picking Up: C Gardner and George 3rd: Moorrunner Isaac [GWP] (J Franks) and Guns' Award 4th: Ch Sireva Margrave [WEI] (G Simpson) The WA is pleased to announce the above results of its All Aged FT today. Run principally in game crop and woodlands. Under overcast skies and having escaped an overnight frost the weather was relatively benign at around 7 degrees. The fields had drained well enough after the heavy rains of a few weeks ago, making the open fields easy to traverse. The boggy areas were in the woodlands from time to time. The guns shot very well and the birds were there to be had, but being very wise January birds the dogs had to be on their mettle not to let them get too far ahead. |
There were occasional pockets of birds sheltering in the deeper gullies, bracken and brashes so dogs had to be worked into favourable positions relative to the wind.
There was good cheer from all taking part, making it a very pleasant trial. Congratulations to Johanna on her 3rd place and the Guns' Award, and to Gil with her fourth. Nigel Wroe WA FT Secretary 11/01/2024 |

Although after the early morning squall, the rain more or less held off, till the end of day. Run principally in open fields of fodder/cover crop and wild bird cover, with occasional woodland work. |
In spite of the initial wet conditions, there were ample birds around in the covers, with some tucked well-in in the woods and spinneys,
The handlers conducted themselves in a cheery and sporting manner, Congratulations to those in the cards, and to Simon with the Guns' Award. With especial thanks to the Host, the Guns, our dedicated judges, and helpers on the day. Nigel Wroe WA FT Secretary 28/12/2023 |

Guns' Award: Cazooska Special Legacy [LM] C Trowsdale
In relatively mild conditions, considering the recent hard frosts, but with scant wind during the first round, and under occasional drizzle. Run principally in open fields of fodder/cover crop and wild bird cover. Dogs were presented with ample birds but dogs, and some handlers, conspired to put themselves out over the two rounds, for the usual reasons. Some handlers were able to take some positives on aspects of their dog's work, with some dogs poised at times to earn an award. Luck was not with them today and save for the guns' award, no dog achieved any accolades. The handlers conducted themselves in a cheery and sporting manner, with advice on hand at the end of day for aspects requiring additional training.

Storm Babet did most of its harm in this corner of England with monsoonal rainstorms overnight, but it was a damp squib by dawn, and the high winds also had blown themselves out. Apart from the occasional drizzle, the weather was not troublesome. The WA is delighted that all four places were awarded and a CoM, with especial congratulations going to Alan Parr for his second Open win with Senza. The mandatory water test was also concluded on the day and in impressive style, and duly certificated and so FT Ch status ought to be confirmed in due course. |
Alan and Senza have made breed history by today's accomplishment and the pair were enthusiastically cheered and applauded by those present.
We are indebted to the host and the team of guns whose shooting added to a thrilling grand finale to the day, under bright skies. Thanks to Franie for securing the ground, and all those helping beforehand and on the day. Thanks also go, of course, to our judges. All elements combined to deliver a thoroughly enjoyable and sporting day in good company. Congratulations go to all in the places. I do believe Alan wins the first custom first prize awarded in the UK from Test Valley Lanyards. Nigel Wroe WA FT Secretary 20/10/2023 |

WA FT Interim Schedule & Entry Form and Standing Instructions 2022/23
Due to uncertainties associated with the outbreak of avian flu in France, and subsequent quarantine regulations, compounded by the high prices of fuel, and game feedstuffs, as a result of the ongoing war in the Ukraine, and other extraneous circumstances, many shooting estates and venues were understandably very late in releasing dates for field trials. The WA does not have all of its planned trial dates available just now, so we are issuing an interim schedule of those trials and venues for which we do have dates.
We have every expectation that further dates and venues will be released in a matter of days, but as our first firm field trial is to be held in Kent on 23rd September 2022, we are releasing an interim schedule today.

FIELD TRIALS 2021/22: Enquiries To: Field Trial Secretary
The Association was determined to host at least its usual complement of field trials for the 2021/22 season, albeit against the background of the current Covid-19 pandemic, and still subject to Government and Public Health Authority guidelines and regulations.
Even so, we were able to plan and execute 7 field trials before the end of calendar 2021, and were able to undertake trials at grounds which were offered in the previous season but which fell foul of the regulatory restrictions. So 2021/22 has been a breath of fresh air and a welcome return to a semblance of normality, and all our trials were well supported. The Weimaraner Association has bounced back in a big way since 2017 when our grounds were casually given away by an outgoing FT Secretary. We have expanded our geographical spread of trial grounds and in the last three years managed to attract 100 new members, many from the trialling community.
The Weimaraner Association, according to the many testimonials received, is now recognised as a leading HPR trialling club. It has been hard work but the rewards have come in widespread recognition. Thank you all, especially the hosts, the gamekeepers and the shooting syndicates. And also to the handlers who know a well run trialling club when they see one.

Many thanks to the hosts, the judges, the guns and helpers who all made this day such a smooth running and pleasurable trial. The weather had been kind overnight, no frost and not too damp underfoot. |
Birds evenly spaced throughout the ground and were available for all dogs, but wind conditions could have been a little stronger to favour the dogs. A big hearty breakfast of eggs and bacon to greet us on arrival was an added bonus! A terrific day and a great atmosphere.

FIELD TRIALS 2020/21: Enquiries To: Field Trial Secretary
The Association was determined to host its usual complement of field trials in the 2020/21 season, albeit against a background of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, and ran two covid-secure field trials which were subject to the KC Operational Guide for the Resumption of Field Trials, Government and Public Health Authority guidelines and regulations.
The initial WA 2020/21 FT Schedule announced three field trials for the 2020/21 season, and a further Novice field trial was later listed for Cropton Forest, which was cancelled by the request of the Kennel Club with just two days to go.

Covid-19 Security:
The Government and Public Health Authorities have introduced social distancing and issued guidance as well as legally enforceable regulations to control the virus. These can and do change at short notice and all those who wish to participate in our sporting and team endeavours with our dogs must make themselves aware of the latest regulations, and must take personal responsibility for their own safety and well being while at our sporting events. It may be possible to add further trials during the course of the season.
In following the KC Operational Guidance for the Resumption of Field Trials, and having undertaken a C-19 risk analysis and formulated measures in accordance with this guidance and analysis, we strive to be "covid secure" in order to comply with the latest regulations and exemptions therefrom.
You will find links below to all necessary documents to enable you to participate in our trials and ensure you are compliant with the measures we have set out to minimise the risk of contamination and transmission.
The WA FT Secretary will be the designated Covid Safety Officer at all trials , or it will be the person named as such in a specific FT running order.
It should be understood that each individual is personally responsible for their own safety and for provision of masks, gloves, and sanitation products. It is stipulated in the WA protocol that you must bring a zip-lock freezer bag to contain your used sanitation materials during the trial. Please take this and its contents home with you and dispose of safely.
SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL APPLY AT ALL TIMES AT THE TRIAL.
YOU MUST READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS REQUIRED OF YOU AS SPECIFIED IN THE LINKED DOCUMENTS BELOW. THESE FORM THE BASIS OF YOUR PARTICIPATION IN A WA TRIAL AND ARE ESSENTIAL TO OUR TRIALS BEING COVID SECURE.

Weimaraners In The Field 2019/20:
Season 2019/20 was a remarkable year of success for Weimaraners in the field. With the frequency of updates to specialist FB trialling group pages over the course of the season, handlers and breeders in the know began to feel that season 2019/20 was going to be like no other, and was shaping up to be an extraordinary season. Infrequent observers of the results pages would miss the building momentum of Team Weimaraner 2019/20 amassing an unparalleled 25 awards. The most awards (including COMs) awarded to Weimaraners in the UK since records began, and they began in 1955/56 with the first awards to Weimaraners in UK field trials.
Let us just pause to reflect on those two dogs in 1955/56. A Glucksmann’s Ann Of Monksway (b) (dob 25/04/1954), and Maj. RM MacGibbon’s Strawbridge Baron (d) (dob 22/12/1952).
In 2015/16 just two Weimaraners picked up 6 awards.
In 2016/17 5 Weimaraners picked up 17 awards.
In 2017/18 4 Weimaraners picked up 11 awards.
In 2018/19 5 Weimaraners picked up 11 awards.
And in 2019/20 8 Weimaraners picked up 25 awards, including a 1st in a Novice FT for Wroe’s Bastillian Lady Kasshilde (b), and Burton’s Trubon Graf Treve (d) a 1st in Open. There was a total of 8 awards in Novice, 7 in All Aged, and 10 in Open.
